Matthew Ackerman, 18, of Louisville passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, December 17, 2024.
He was born September 19, 2006 in Louisville a son to Raymond Matthew Ackerman, III and Shelly Detwiler Ackerman.
Matthew was a rambunctious bundle of energy from the moment he entered our lives. He always brought joy, goofiness, love and laughter to all his family and friends. His huge and ever reaching personality was always front and center. Matthew was an adventurous and creative soul. Speeding on his bike, tricks on the trampoline and high dive, dreaming of sky diving one day. He loved ceramics and drawing expressing himself through his art.
Matthew was a master in the kitchen and was always trying new and interesting foods. He cherished his summers with his "Boys" at Lakeside, movies and sleepovers. Matthew loved playing in the ocean with his cousins, and late night runs to Graeter's with his sister. He adored his cat, Meeko.
His soul and spirit can now rest easy next to his Heavenly Father.
The LORD watches over you- the LORD is your shade at your right hand; the sun will not harm you by day, not the moon by night. The LORD will keep you from all harm- he will watch over your life; the LORD will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore. Psalms 121: 5-8.
Matthew is survived by his parents, Matt and Shelly; his sister, Emerson Ackerman; maternal grandmother, Cynthia Freeman Denney; paternal grandfather, Raymond "Buzzy" Ackerman; aunt, Betsy Rodway and her two children, Matthew's cousins, Benjamin and Ada. He is preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Thomas Detwiler and Paternal grandmother, Cheryl Ackerman.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, December 21, 2024, at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 1920 Newburg Road, Louisville with burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, December 20, 2024, at Ratterman Funeral Home, 3711 Lexington Road, St. Matthews.
Memorial gifts in the form of contributions may be made to The Ronald McDonald House or to a Rescue or Shelter for dogs and cats of your choice in Matthew's name.
