Matthew J. Amato Sr. a longtime resident of
Titusville, Florida passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 27, 2025.
He was born in New York City to Harry and Rose Amato on November 30, 1935. He graduated from Hempstead High School in New York. He served in the Naval Reserves for 8 years, rising to the rank of Seaman 1st Class. He married Joan Louise Green on August 28, 1955, in Blackshear, Georgia and together raised their 5 children in Titusville. He worked as a procurement manager for McDonnell Douglas for over 30 years. He was longtime a member of St. Teresa Catholic Church and was an Honorary Life member of The Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed Deer hunting and fishing too; he had several of his game mounted. He enjoyed taking his Red Bass boat out regularly and catching the fish for Friday dinners. He had a summer home in Tennessee where he enjoyed several hobbies including woodcarving, ceramics, stained glass and gardening, growing vegetables, grapes and making wine. He had just recently celebrated his 90th birthday surrounded by family and friends.
Matt is preceded in death by his wife Joan, his parents Harry and Rose Amato, his brother Harold Amato and his sister Linda Bonnell.
Mr. Amato is survived by his 5 children: Stephen Amato Sr., Marie Amato Godfrey, Mark J. Amato (Denise), Marguerite (Peggy) Amato Ritchie, and Matthew J. Amato Jr. (Ruth), 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Graveside services will be held at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens in Titusville, Friday, January 16, 2026, at 2:00 pm. Family and friends will gather at the Amato residence immediately following the service.
