Obituary published on Legacy.com by Kerr Brothers Funeral Home - Harrodsburg Road on Dec. 26, 2025.
Matthew Richard Erdman, 44, of
Alexandria, KY, passed away on Tuesday, December 23, 2025.
He was born on December 31, 1980 in
Takoma Park, MD, the son of Judy (Manis) Erdman and Richard Erdman. Matt grew up in
Columbia, MD and graduated from Hammond High School in 1999. As an adult, he moved to
Lexington, KY and later to
Alexandria, KY to be near the family he cherished.
Matt displayed a special aptitude for computers at a young age. He earned advanced credentials with honors in web design and computer programming at Howard Community College and later an associate's degree from Bluegrass Community and Technical College.
He was a lifelong learner and a voracious reader, with special interests in studying history and researching his family's genealogy. He enjoyed music and movies, as well as attending concerts, and was a Maryland Terrapins and Kentucky Wildcats basketball fan.
Matt's greatest joy was loving and being loved by his family. He loved celebrating birthdays and holidays, and the special times with family that they brought. In his final years, he delighted in being "Uncle Matt" to his nephew and niece, Ben and Catherine – reading to them, playing with them, and even dancing with them to their favorite songs.
Like his Papaw, Matt had a smile that would light up the room. Despite facing many health challenges during his life, Matt never lost his gentle spirit or his bright smile.
Matthew is survived by his parents, Judy Manis Erdman of
Alexandria, KY and Richard (Fary) Erdman of Ellicott City, MD; a sister, Laura Erdman of
Alexandria, KY; his beloved nephew and niece, Benjamin Kyper and Catherine Kyper; and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Arthur and Barbara Erdman, and Isaac Gray and Hester Manis; his aunts, Rebecca Nipper and Bonnie Roglitz; his uncle, Mark King; and his cousin, Patrick Roglitz.
A funeral service will be held at 12:30 pm on Tuesday, December 30, 2025 at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, 3421 Harrodsburg Road,
Lexington, KY 40513. Visitation will be from 10:30 am – 12:30 pm on Tuesday at the funeral home. A private burial will follow at the Lexington Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to Springer School and Center, www.springer-LD.org, in honor and memory of Matt.
