Matthew Allen Hyland

Matthew A. Hyland 53, of Delaware passed away Friday afternoon, October 17, 2025 at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus following complications from surgery.
He was born on March 5, 1972 in Columbus to the late Donald and Mary (Martin) Hyland.
Matthew was a 16-year veteran of the United States Navy and on August 21, 2014, he married his soulmate and high school sweetheart, Erica (Self). Together they shared 11 years of marriage.
He played the trombone in The Little Big Band of Columbus and was a member of the Hiram Masonic Lodge No. 18 of Delaware and was involved with the Aladdin Shriners Hospital of Grove City. Matthew loved watching the Ohio State Buckeyes and Dallas Cowboys and playing his trombone, fishing and spending time with his family. He also enjoyed Star Wars and playing video games.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Erica; children, Jordan Olson, Dillon McClelland, Chris Hyland, Nick Hyland, and Nichole McClaskie, all of Delaware; siblings, Mike (Deborah) Hyland of Arizona, Terry Hyland of Texas, and Patricia Hyland of Delaware; many nieces, nephews and cousins; canine companions, Sophia and Paige.

A celebration of life for Matthew will be held on Sunday, November 2, 2025 from 12:00 - 4:00 pm at the AmVets Post #102, 485 Park Avenue, Delaware.
