Matthew Todd Lake, of Owosso, formerly of New Lothrop,
Passed away as a result of a car accident on October 9, 2025, at the age of 48.
Matt was born on January 10, 1977 in Flint, Michigan, to Leland Lake Jr. and Gloria Collins. He was a 1996 graduate of New Lothrop High School. He met his wife, Heather, at a restaurant in Owosso where she waitressed. They married on June 11, 1999.
Matt was rough on the outside, but had a heart of gold. There was nothing he wouldn't do for someone in need. His life brought him many hardships, but his faith in Jesus served as a beacon in his life. He and Heather, were devoted members of the Life In Christ Church in Owosso for the last 8 years. He enjoyed sharing the gospel with followers of all ages. Especially with his Stand Strength Team which he had been apart of since 2012. He served as a missionary with the Stand Strength team for 5 years, together, they'd travel to churches, Christian Music Festivals, and Schools to share the love of Jesus. Matt held 2 world records and a national record in powerlifting, something he trained very hard for and was very proud of. Outside of weightlifting, Matt enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, watching U of M, Detroit Lions, and Kansas City Chiefs football. He was a beloved Papa, who loved his grandchildren more than anything in the world. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Matt is survived by his wife of 26 years, Heather; children, Jakob Lake, Nicholas (Jillian) Lake, Nicole (Jared) Lake - Carpenter, Joshua (Ashlee) Valentin, Katelyn Valentin, and Stephanie Valentin; grandchildren, Logan, Xavier, Timmy, Lilliana, Logan, Ellie, Liam, Paisley, Mateo, Ava, Zeke, Isaiah, and Reed; brother, Michael (Dona) Reed; mother, Gloria Lake; best friends, Joe Dawes and Leo Kyser. He was preceded in death by his father, Leland Lake Jr. and sister, Carol Lake.
Visitation will take place on Tuesday, October 14, 2025 from 3:00pm until 8:00pm at McGeehan Funeral Home - New Lothrop Chapel. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at 2:00pm, with visitation starting at 12:00pm until the time of service, at McGeehan Funeral Home - New Lothrop Chapel.
