Matthew Sherwood Rogers, age 43, passed away on Thursday, December 14, 2023, surrounded by family after a hard-fought battle with cancer. He was the son of Stephen and Janna Rogers of Lehi, Utah. Matt was born in Provo, Utah and later moved to
Roosevelt, Utah then Lehi, Utah where he resided until his passing.
Obtaining an education was very important to Matt and was something he excelled at. He graduated from Lehi High School in 1998 then went on to graduate from Brigham Young University (BYU) with a degree in Information Technology. He subsequently obtained a Master of Business degree from the University of Utah.
Professionally, Matt worked as an IT specialist for Lehi City while attending college. After graduating from BYU, he worked for Omniture which was later acquired by Adobe. Matt continued his career at Adobe until recently when his health declined. He absolutely loved his work there and found it to be very fulfilling.
Having a family of his own was of top importance to Matt. He married the love of his life, Marquelle Wilkinson, on December 5, 2013, in the Salt Lake Temple. Matt's dreams of having children were fulfilled with the arrival of their three children: Braxton (deceased), Macie and Abby. He enjoyed spending time building Mark Rober toys with his daughters and introducing them to cartoons such as,. He was a loving husband and father and looked forward to the time he would be able to see his son again.
Matt had an unshakeable testimony of Jesus Christ and the plan of salvation. He served as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Chile, Santiago North Mission from October 1999-October 2001. He also served as a baptistry coordinator, ordinance worker and organist at the Mount Timpanogos Temple. He held various church callings with his favorite being the ward organist which he said was, "the best calling in the church". The members of his ward and stake loved hearing him play the organ, especially when he would add his own touches to the hymns, make unexpected key changes in between verses or cause the rafters of the building to shake when he played the bass pedals with "full organ".
Matt had a variety of interests and talents. He loved to bake and was known for his sourdough bread and rolls, biscuits, Tollhouse pie and Liege waffles. These were crowd favorites and often requested to be made by family, especially his nieces and nephews. He was also an avid reader and loved listening to audio books. Matt was exceedingly talented at playing both the piano and organ. He was blessed to be taught by virtuoso musicians including Dustin Gledhill, Parley Belnap and Joseph Peeples. He had a strong desire to inspire young people to play the organ. He received the Sterling Scholar Award in music his senior year of high school. Matt particularly enjoyed classical music which he was introduced to by his grandparents who often had it playing in their home when he would visit. Matt loved to mountain bike, run, and ski. He was a member of the cross-country team in high school, and he later ran six marathons throughout Utah. Matt also enjoyed traveling around the world, especially with his wife, Marquelle. He described himself as a "die hard" BYU fan and loved listening to and reading all the conversations regarding BYU football.
