Matthew Scott Sams, age 16, of Lyons, passed away on Thursday morning, October 31, 2024, in Sandborn, Indiana, due to injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident. Matthew was born in Linton on December 28, 2007, the son of Jeff S. Sams and Brandy J. (Cottingham) Holtsclaw.
Matthew was a Junior at White River Valley High School, class of 2026. He also attended a welding program at Vincennes University. Throughout the years, Matthew enjoyed many sports including basketball, baseball, tennis, cross country, and soccer. He played goalie for the White River Valley Soccer Team that was the 2024 Sectional Champions.
He enjoyed his truck (and trading trucks), many pairs of shoes, sporting the color pink, and loved being with his friends.
He is survived by his mother, Brandy J. Holtsclaw (Bryan Brinson); his father, Jeff S. Sams (Leah Hubbell); maternal grandparents, Terry and Judy Cottingham; siblings, Jaycie (Ryan) Edwards, Jarett Holtsclaw, and Jaylie Sams; aunts, Jessica Huffman, Beth Corbin, Karen Baughman, and Barb Verseman; uncles, Jack Cottingham, Gary Sams, and Michael Sams; nephews, Memphis McNeal, Branson Edwards, Kahlen Edwards, Kaysen Edwards, and Bradley Holtsclaw; many cousins; and his girlfriend, Anneston Dunigan.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Cindy Walls; and his paternal grandparents, Myrtle and David Sams.
Funeral service will be held at the Linton First Christian Church at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, November 6, 2024. Burial will follow at Prairie Chapel Cemetery in Lyons.
Visitation will be held at the church on Tuesday, November 5, 2024 from 2:00 - 8:00 PM, and Wednesday from 10:00 AM until the time of service at 1:00 PM.
Memorial contributions may be made to the family through the funeral home. Envelopes will be available at the church.
Arrangements are in care of Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Worthington.
