Matthew Stephen Sutherland, 62, of Edmond, Oklahoma, passed away on March 9, 2023. Matt was born in Norman, Oklahoma, on September 8, 1960, the third son of Dr. Stephen and Joan Nagengast Sutherland.
Matt graduated from Norman High School in 1978 and began classes in Management Information Systems at The University of Oklahoma Price College of Business. Prior to completing his college degree, Matt worked in restaurant management and ran sound for area bands, including Eclipse. He was known for his innovative sound systems. During his college years, he formed a special bond with his brother Scott when they shared nearby apartments and adventures which have yet to be confessed.
Upon graduating from college, Matt began work at AIS Infosource in Oklahoma City. Matt was one of the first employees and advanced to Executive Vice President, where he was responsible for both domestic and international staff. AIS shared with us the impact Matt had on the business; "Matt, with his beloved wife Karla, built the foundation for AIS and helped grow the business for over 30 years. Matt's dedication to his team and clients set the standard for how we operate today. He was a truly genuine human being, mentor and friend who will be remembered for his huge heart, warm smile, and eternal sense of humor."
Matt and Karla Padgett met at AIS in 1992. They became the best of friends and married in 1995. They have one daughter, Madison Claire Sutherland. The close-knit family was noted for being inseparable and shared bonds of love, care and respect for each other. Their love of travel led to many amazing family vacations, including nineteen cruises. Madison was her father's pride and joy. Highlights of her childhood were daddy/daughter dances and special trips.
In addition to enjoying family time and travel, Matt was known for entertaining family and friends, frequently while demonstrating his skills at grilling. Matt gained friends wherever he was. His quick wit and humor kept everyone laughing, and he was well-known for playing pranks. Matt was a "second dad" to many of Madison's friends, and both young and old looked to Matt for knowledge and advice.
Matt is survived by his wife Karla and daughter Madison, brother Scott and wife Leslie, brother Mark and wife Jill, sister Krista Jana and husband Tim, stepmother Judy Sutherland, brother-in-law Jeff Padgett and wife Jill, sister-in-law Lisa Landon and husband Kelly, and sister-in-law Jennifer Colbert. Nieces and nephews are Cameron Sutherland, Alexis Akard, Alex Sutherland, Amanda Arani, Gabe and Kate Jana, Jake Landon, Corbin and Carson Padgett, Ashlyn, Madeline and Conner Colbert.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, April 1 at 1:00 p.m.at Crossings Community Church, 14600 N. Portland Avenue, Oklahoma City, OK 73134. Attendees should use the northeast atrium entrance.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to one of Matt's favorite charities: Free to Live Animal Sanctuary. Freetoliveok.org, phone 405-282-8617

Although I did not know Matt personally, I had the honor of meeting several of his wonderful family members in the ICU waiting room, including Karla and Madison. Matt had a very loving and devoted family who kept constant vigilance over him day after day and week after week. The end result is truly heartbreaking, but Matt left this earth knowing how much he was loved by his beloved Karla and Madison, as well as extended family and friends. He was truly blessed and I hope all will find comfort in the love he created and nurtured in life.
