Matthew McCay Young, 54, of Lubbock, Texas, passed away on August 8, 2025. Matt was born September 14, 1970, in Amarillo, Texas. Matt was raised in Lubbock , Texas and graduated from Monterey High School in 1989. Matt had a 30+ year career working for Texas Tech University's Reese Center. He took great pride in being part of the team at the Reese center and the family would like to thank all those who worked with and supported Matt through the years. Matthew was known for his vibrant love of sports. "Fanatic" in the dictionary should have Matt's picture by the definition. He loved college sports and pro sports often attending games reveling in the camaraderie and friendships they fostered. A true aficionado, he found joy in the thrill of competition, whether by cheering on his favorite teams or enjoying the music and movies that brought a sense of wonder to his life. He also cherished his four cats, who provided him with comfort and companionship. Matthew was preceded in death by his father, Joe A. Young and mother, Mildred Sims Young. Matt was a loving son, who cared for his parents until their passing. Matthew is survived by his brother, Russell Young (Kristi Young) of Fredericksburg Tx., His nieces Megan Young- John of Houston, Ashleigh Dreyer and Heather Young , both of Fredericksburg,Tx.. Cousins, Jerry Sims (Stephanie Sims)of Lubbock, Barry Sims(Olivia Sims) of Canadian, Kim Hopkins (Marshall) and Lisa Gibson(Brad) all of Pampa. Each of these relationships held a special place in his heart and contributed to a life filled with love and connection. Visitation will be held at Sanders Funeral Home on August 18, 2025, from 6:00-8:00 p.m., inviting friends and family to share in the remembrance of a kind soul whose laughter and warmth touched many. Matthew will be laid to rest at Rowe Cemetery in Hedley, Texas at a later date. In celebrating Matthew's life, we honor a gentle spirit who leaves behind cherished memories and an enduring legacy of kindness. His absence will be profoundly felt, but his spirit will forever resonate in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
