It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Mattie Lee Faehnrich, who passed away on, Friday, May 23, 2025, in Spartanburg, SC, at the age of 87. Born on Sunday, March 6, 1938, in Gaffney, SC, she was the daughter to the late Walter Otis Owens and Helen Sue Maynor Owens.
For over 12 years, Mattie dedicated her career to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center as a member of the security team. Mattie was known for her striking white hair, infectious humor along with her people-oriented personality, allowing her to engage with those around her in a warm and friendly manner.
Devoted to her family, Mattie cherished her role as a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She took great joy in caring for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, instilling in them the values of love and togetherness. She was a wonderful homemaker with a specialty in cooking, Mattie also had a green thumb with her ability to grow anything she touched.
She was an avid lover of books and reading, often found lost in a great story. Mattie's adventurous side came alive on motorcycle rides through the mountains with her beloved husband, Don, she was truly a "motorcycle mama".
Deeply involved in her community, Mattie was a long-time member of First Baptist Church in Spartanburg and held memberships with Eastern Star and Lady of the Nile.
Mattie leaves behind her loving husband of 68 years, Don Faehnrich; son, Eddie Faehnrich; daughters, Kathy F. Roberts and Vicky Connor (Mark); her grandchildren Leslie Faehnrich, Tasha F. Kennedy (Michael), Luke Connor (Victoria), Katie Roberts, and Kennedy Roberts; as well as great-grandchildren Nathaniel, Sarah, and Owen Kennedy; Millie-Dean and Parker-James Ziganto; and Freyja Connor and Seth Faehnrich. She had many special friends that were dear to her heart including her dog, Louie.
She was predeceased by her parents, son-in-law Dean Roberts, sister Nell, one brother, and granddaughter Loarain Faehnrich.
The family will receive friends, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Wednesday, May 28, 2025, Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307.
The funeral service will be held, 11:00 AM, Thursday, May 29, 2025, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel with burial to follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Services will be conducted by The Rev. Kenneth Cash, The Rev. Sal Barone and The Rev. Bart Mitchell.

While we mourn the loss of Mattie, we also celebrate the remarkable life she led and the impact she made on those around her.
