Maureen Ann Duggan, 64, a resident of Scottsdale, Arizona, transitioned to heaven peacefully at her home on August 20. Her loving wife, Susan, her sister, Colleen, and her dog, Bella were at her side. Maureen had the ability to light up a room and her unique spirit will be missed so much by everyone who knew her.
Maureen was born in Peoria, Illinois on June 15, 1960, to Jack E. and Mary H. Duggan. She was President of her class and graduated from Bradley University in Peoria with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing. As a Registered Nurse, she cared for patients at St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Illinois, John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek, California, and San Ramon Regional Medical Center in San Ramon, California. In addition, she worked as a travel nurse stationed in Los Angeles and Hawaii. She loved connecting with her patients at the bedside, deeply caring for the person and not just the illness. Years later a patient would recall Maureen's professional and compassionate care, which demonstrated the true art of nursing.
Maureen met the love of her life, Susan Ludwig, in 2008. They were married in 2011 and enjoyed many excellent adventures together living in California, Kansas, and Arizona. They loved basketball, roller blading, biking, walking, tree hugging, and baseball games. They also traveled to Europe, and Maureen's favorite place, Hawaii. Mostly, they loved just being together, sharing their lives, their spirituality, enjoying their home, and appreciating their time together.
After Maureen retired from nursing, she continued to connect with each person she met, recognizing the talents they possessed and encouraging them in their life pursuits. Maureen was unique in every way. She had numerous friends who dearly loved her for her kindness, her wit, and her bright spirit. She had an inquisitive mind and was able to articulate her thoughts verbally and in writing in a way that truly communicated her ideas and her essence. She had many interests including holistic health care, nutrition, yoga, roller blading and numerous other activities. She and wife, Susan, traveled to Italy, France, Croatia, Alaska, and other wonderful sites.
Maureen was very spiritual. and her early education in Peoria at St. Philomena's elementary school and Notre Dame High School (formerly Bergan High School) along with the life lessons she learned from her brother, Patrick, and so many others, served her well in life as she looked to God to guide her journey. She was known for her gentle, kind, nature, and spirituality by all those who met her and encouraged those around her to seek God's guidance as well.
Maureen is survived by her loving wife, Susan Ludwig, of Scottsdale, Arizona, her sisters, Colleen Duggan of Kansas, Kathleen O'Brien of Texas, and Molly Duggan of Northern California, as well as an extended family of nieces and nephews, Maureen also leaves behind her dear dog, Bella, who was at her side every moment.
Maureen was preceded in death by her brother, Patrick Duggan (2006), a United States Marine, who served in Vietnam, her father, Jack E. Duggan (2013), and her mother, Mary H. Duggan (2018).
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at 11am, at The Episcopal Church of the Nativity, 22405 N. Miller Rd, Scottsdale, AZ 85255.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made, in Maureen's name, to the Bradley University School of Nursing (Health & Sciences Dept) in Peoria, IL or to The Episcopal Church of the Nativity in Scottsdale, Arizona.
