Fitchburg – Maureen A. (Grier) McSheehy, 76, passed away peacefully at home on September 28, 2024, surrounded by loved ones.
Maureen was born in Fitchburg on April 18, 1948, a daughter of the late Donald and Catherine (Craigen) Grier. She was a graduate of Saint Bernards High School and furthered her education at Fitchburg State College for both her Bachelors and Masters Degrees. Maureen spent her career as a teacher working for the Fitchburg Public School System, retiring after 35 years. After her retirement, Maureen, who always loved being active in the community, worked at the Fitchburg Public Library for nearly 12 years.
In her spare time Maureen loved quilting and reading a good book. She was a talented baker and always enjoyed traveling with friends and family. Maureen will be fondly remembered as a woman who could accomplish anything once she put her mind to it; she will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Bill McSheehy of Fitchburg; a brother Kevin Grier of Fitchburg, and a host of loving friends and extended family.
Maureen was predeceased by her daughter Emily McSheehy, sister Karen Powers, and brother Thomas Grier.
The family would like to extend a most heartfelt thank you to the French Connection for their compassion and exceptional care.
Calling hours will be held in the Isabelle & Anderson Funeral Home, 316 Clarendon St., Fitchburg on Tuesday, October 8, from 4 – 7 pm. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, October 9, at 11:30am in Saint Bernards Cemetery, Fitchburg.

Maureen was a great colleague at Memorial Middle school back in the 90s. We had a lot of laughs as a group, guiding students along to success, and supporting each other. Maureen will be remembered always; may she rest in peace.

I taught with Maureen at the beginning of my career in Fitchburg. I learned a lot about how to negotiate relationships with peers, with admin, and with students by watching Maureen cruise through every day with grace and ease.
My condolences to the family. I am sure that Maureen´s absence will leave a void that´s difficult to fill.
