SOUTHBURY - Maureen Elizabeth Metcalf, a longtime resident of Southbury, passed away peacefully on August 27. Maureen was born in Brooklyn, New York, to Joseph and Elizabeth McBride. She is survived by siblings Joseph McBride, Patricia DeZego, and Thomas McBride, all of Florida, as well as Theodore DiMone of Rhode Island and John DiMone of North Carolina.
As a child, Maureen lived in New York, later moving to Newtown, Connecticut, where she graduated from high school and met the love of her life at the Sandy Hook diner. She and George settled in Southbury. Maureen fondly recalled the days when the town was a little smaller, quieter, and more country-times when you could ride your horse along the main roads to access the bridal trail. Maureen loved horses and remembered riding every day. As Southbury grew and expanded, she continued to love the community and all that it now offers.
Maureen and George had a house in Palm Coast, Florida, but Southbury was always home. Spending time with family was her greatest joy. She followed and applauded her family's many accomplishments with immense pride. Maureen leaves behind two daughters, Elizabeth Boulier and her husband Peter, and Leigh Ances and her husband Michael. She also leaves behind five grandchildren: Jason, Chad, Amanda, Hunter, and Spencer, and one great-grandchild, Roisin. Spending time with all of them was at the heart of everything she did. Thanksgiving and Christmas were her favorite holidays, especially when the family gathered together to play some highly contested setback tournaments. These were times when the house was full and the laughter was constant.
While family was Rene's first priority, throughout the years, she held positions in banking and customer relations. She also taught CCD classes, coached Pop Warner cheerleading, and volunteered with local organizations. Rene was known for her impeccable style-she enjoyed fashion, interior design, and keeping up with the latest trends. Her creative and artistic flair was evident in all that she did. Rene's legacy is one of love, warmth, and a deep appreciation for both the simple and special moments in life. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
The family would like to thank the many wonderful friends who shared their genuine compassion and assistance during this difficult time. Additionally, they want to give thanks to all of the team members from All About You! Home Care Services, The Harold Leever Regional Cancer Center, and AccentCare Hospice.
Calling hours will be held from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Monday, September 1, 2025, at Carpino Funeral Home, located at 750 Main Street South in Southbury, CT. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to the American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org. To leave a message of remembrance, please visit www.CarpinoCares.com.
