Maxene H. Gurdo, 87, of West Winfield passed away peacefully at Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, January 18, 2024.
She was born on July 24, 1936 in Utica a daughter of the late Max and Irene (Pilachowski) Philipson.
On December 30, 1954 in Utica she was united in marriage to the love of her life Arthur S. Gurdo Sr., a blessed union of over 57 years filled with much love and mutual devotion. Mr. Gurdo passed away on March 16, 2013. In 1972 Maxene and her husband relocated to West Winfield where they raised their family and their many Siberian Huskies.
She was employed for many years with North Western Mutual, Ken Zoller Insurance agency in West Winfield. Most of her life was dedicated to caring for and raising her family. She is remembered by her family as a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She loved her family and cherished the time that she spent with them, especially her adored children and grandchildren. She loved to cook and entertain. She and her husband enjoyed spending time at their camp in the Adirondacks and wintering in Florida. She will be sadly missed by her many family members and friends.
She is survived by her children, Arthur (Wanda) Gurdo Jr, Lisa (Gary) Lee, and Patricia (Terry) Terenzetti. She also leaves 11 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren, her siblings, Sara Williams, Sylvia (Walt) Kozyra, David (Lucille) Philipson and Cheryl Philipson, also many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter Lorraine Case just last year, and her best friend and canine companion, Belle.
Family and friends are invited to attend her funeral services on Tuesday January 23, 2024 at 12:00 Noon at the Dimbleby Funeral Homes Inc. 365 West Main St.. in West Winfield. Interment will be in the spring in St. Agnes Cemetery in Utica. Calling hours will be prior to the service on Tuesday from 10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon.
Mom never liked saying goodbye, it was always "See you when I see you!"
