Maxine L. Szparaga

Maxine L. Schumigal Szparaga, age 93, of Fairview Township, passed away Friday, July 11, 2025, at her residence. She was born in Erie on April 17, 1932, a daughter of the late Max and Ann Pruniewski Schumigal. Maxine graduated from Academy High School in 1950 and went on to work for PNC Bank as a head teller for 25 plus years, retiring in 1995. She was a founding member of Holy Cross Catholic Church and was very devoted to her patron saint, Saint Jude. She loved cats and Christmas. Maxine enjoyed spending many summers with her family at Presque Isle. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Nancy Wasielewski, and her brother, Arnold Schumigal. Survivors include her husband of 67 years, Richard J. Szparaga; her daughter, Camille Kuntz (Gregory), of Fairview; her two sons, Philp Szparaga, of Erie, and Eric Szparaga (Lisa), of Albion, PA; her six grandchildren, Erica VanHorn (Jon), Zachary Kuntz (Sarah), Jared Szparaga, Joshua Szparaga, Dylan Szparaga (Jessica), and Kelsey Szparaga; and her two great-grandsons, George and Lucas VanHorn. Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home, Inc. 5000 Wattsburg Rd. on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, from 10 a.m. until the time of funeral service there at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be private in Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery.
