Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ellis Funeral Home - Morton on Nov. 25, 2025.
Maxine Yeary, age 89, of Lubbock, Texas and formerly of
Morton, Texas, passed from this earth to spend eternity with her Heavenly Father on Sunday, November 23rd in Lubbock, surrounded by her family. The world seems a little darker without her. Maxine was known to family and friends as someone that brought joy everywhere she went. She had an infectious laugh that she shared readily, telling stories and finding good in every situation and every person.
Maxine was born in Brownfield, Texas to Max and Leora Bowers (Handley) on May 11, 1936 but moved to
Morton, Texas quickly thereafter. She married Robert Yeary on September 7, 1956 and the young couple lived in various cities before returning to Morton in 1966 to farm and raise their family. Maxine stayed busy helping with the farm and supporting multiple organizations within the Morton community. She was always quick to volunteer anytime organizations needed help and this was especially true when kids were involved. Maxine always had a special place in her heart for children and positively impacted countless lives by giving generously of her time and attention. She seemed to have a special connection with children and had a knack for meeting them on their level and helping them explore their world. She enjoyed playing as much as the kids and maintained a sense of curiosity throughout her lifetime.
Maxine held two degrees from Texas Tech University, one of which she earned during the 'empty nest' phase of her life. She also completed additional post graduate work and found time to earn a pilot's license and a real estate license; she always kept herself busy and had too many hobbies to list. Maxine found great peace and pleasure in painting and creating things with her hands and often lost herself in the creative process.
Regardless of her changing interests and hobbies, one truth remained throughout her life, Maxine was a born-again Christian and leaned heavily on the promises of God when life was difficult. She was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church in Morton and never missed an opportunity to serve others and share her faith through her actions and the positive example she lived. She left a legacy of faith for her family and many others that knew her.
Maxine was predeceased by Robert, her parents, and her brother, Joe Bowers. She leaves behind her daughter Malinda Gerber and husband, Kevin; son Bret Yeary and wife, Kristie; grandchildren Miriah Davis (Jonathan), Nathan Yeary, Max Gerber (Megan), and John Yeary (Princess); great granddaughter Ellie Davis; and countless friends.
The family suggests memorials be sent to First Baptist Church of Morton, 608 East Grant,
Morton, Texas, 79346
