With her beloved daughter Kathy by her side, Mayda Ann Simons peacefully passed away at the Kansas City Hospice House on June 18, 2025. Born on August 6, 1934, in Longton, Kansas, Mayda lived a life full of love, talent, and boundless energy.
Mayda was a woman of many gifts. Her culinary skills were legendary, especially her oatmeal raisin cookies, which were cherished by all who tasted them. She wore many hats throughout her life, from being a dedicated school bus driver to owning a motel and even remodeling homes. There was truly nothing she couldn't do.
In her leisure time, Mayda found joy in crocheting blankets, solving puzzles, and reading the Bible. She also enjoyed the thrill of playing the Powerball, always hopeful for a big win.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Belma McConnell, her devoted husband Robert Simons, her daughter Karen Martin, and brothers Terrell, Fred, and Richard McConnell.
Mayda's legacy lives on through her son Michael Hulbert, daughter Kathy Kutzli, and sister Helen Steiner. She was a proud grandmother to five grandchildren: Micheal Hardiman (Jill), Teresa Kubik (Jason), RuthAnn Schulz (Tony), Chris Kutzli (Gayla), and John Kutzli (Kristin). Her family continued to grow with 16 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren, all of whom brought immense joy to her life.
Mayda's warmth, strength, and spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Visitation will be Tuesday, July 1, 2025 11:00 am until 1:00 pm at Consalus Funeral Home Chapel, 209 S. 2nd, Clinton, MO, with Graveside services at 1:30 Pm at Vansant Road Cemetery, Clinton, MO. Under the care and direction of Consalus Funeral Home.
