Melda Rose (Brown) Baechler, of Jeffersonville, IN, passed away peacefully on August 19, 2025, at the Hosparus Inpatient Care Center in Louisville, KY. She was born on September 25, 1940, to the late Kenneth Lee Brown and Delores B. (Eckhart) Brown.
On November 15, 1958, Melda married Carl Fredrick Baechler in New Albany, IN. They shared nearly 59 years of marriage before his passing on September 26, 2017. Together, they built a loving family and a life rooted in dedication and care.
A devoted homemaker, Melda's greatest joy was being present for her family. She was active in Girl Scouts as a leader, loved to cook, and was a gifted seamstress. She had a passion for reading and enjoyed arts and crafts, with a special talent for creating unique chess sets. As the wife of a Navy man, she carried strength, devotion, and resilience throughout her life.
Melda is survived by her children, Judy Carta of Jeffersonville, IN, Becky (Stephen) Bottorff of Sellersburg, IN, Bobbie Grebes of Sarasota, FL, and Martin Fredrick Baechler of Clear Brook, VA; eight grandchildren; and 2.5 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her son, Larry Baechler; and her siblings, Jim, Billy, Sammy Jake, Danny Joe, and Jean.
Cremation services will be entrusted to Adams Family Funeral Homes & Crematory in Henryville, IN.
