Banister-Cooper Funeral HomeMrs. Melinda “Lindy” Alexander Denton, age 75, of Hiawassee, Georgia, passed away on Friday, December 5, 2025, following an extended illness.
Lindy was born on July 10, 1950, in Murphy, North Carolina, to the late Robert and Betty (Rogers) Alexander. She was a longtime and devoted member of McConnell Memorial Baptist Church, where she faithfully served in the choir, sharing her beautiful voice with the church and community. Her faith was a guiding force in her life, and she found joy in using her gifts to serve others.
A gifted artist, Lindy's creativity knew few bounds. Whether it was through baking, sketching, or singing, she poured her heart into everything she did. Every project she touched bore her unique mark of passion, attention to detail, and a talent that few could match.
From a young age, Lindy developed a love of horses, which remained throughout her life. She enjoyed riding and caring for them, showing them the same kindness and care she shared with everyone in her life. While she had a love for all animals, horses held a special place in her heart.
She completed 2 years at Young Harris College before enrolling at the University of Georgia where she earned her degree in Art and Education. She began her professional journey as a teacher, inspiring and shaping young minds. Later, she went on to serve as a social worker with Ninth District Opportunity and the Department of Family and Children Services, where she worked to make a difference in the lives of many families in need.
Lindy's warmth, generosity, and boundless creativity will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and artistic expression that will continue to inspire those who carry her memory in their hearts.
Lindy was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Betty Alexander. She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Garry Denton; her sons, Jeremiah Denton, Wes Denton and his beautiful wife, Heather Stewart-Denton; her daughter, Courtney Outler, and her husband, John Outler; her grandchildren, Augustas Denton and Gage Denton; and her brothers, Bill Alexander, Jim Alexander, and Joe Alexander. Her memory will live on in the lives she touched and the beauty she brought to this world.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, December 13, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at McConnell Memorial Baptist Church. A memorial service will follow at 12:00 p.m., with Rev.
