Mr. James Hugh "Rusty" Jordan, age 80, of Lindale, GA, passed away on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at his residence.
Mr. Jordan was born in
Rome, GA, on June 14, 1945, son of the late James William Jordan and the late Lila Hugh Proudfoot Jordan. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Bettie Ann Ely Jordan, and by a sister, Louise Weaver. Mr. Jordan was a 1963 graduate of Darlington School and received his bachelor's in history from the University of Georgia. He was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force, where he was a fighter pilot and trained in the T-33 aircraft. After his service to our country, Mr. Jordan was an executive in the textile industry for many years, having served at Lindale Manufacturing and with Shaw Industries as well as various other mills. The last 25 years of his working career were spent teaching Latin and Spanish at Darlington School. Mr. Jordan was of the Christian faith and is now rejoicing in the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, for eternity.
Mr. Jordan was a hobby enthusiast. He enjoyed all aspects of aviation, collected cars, and was an avid R.C. car and plane Pilot, even founding the Rome R.C. Flyers Club. Mr. Jordan owned "Jordan Hobbies" on Broad Street in downtown Rome for many years helping others partake in his love of the culture. He loved guns and gun collecting, and was a member of the Floyd County Wildlife Association. Mr. Jordan was a history fanatic, especially WWII, and you could often find him reading when his busy schedule allowed. He was very meticulous and organized and made sure everything had its place. Despite his dry sense of humor, Mr. Jordan was a practical joker and introduced new members of the family in a way that left everyone in tears. He had a huge heart for all of his students, going above and beyond the call of a teacher, with many students still claiming "Mr. Jordan was my favorite teacher I've ever had."
Survivors include his three children, Brad Jordan (Charlotte), Lindale, Mitch Jordan (Neysa), Rome, and Anna Hubbell (Chris), Peachtree Corners; three step children, Steve Clark (Cheryl), Tina Clark, and Bruce Clark (Tammy); seven grandchildren, Whitney Robinson, River Hart, Mallory Jordan Smith (Stephen), Claire Jordan, Riley Jordan, Carter Hubbell, and Jordan Hubbell; four step grandchildren, Landon Clark (Kimberly), Bradley Clark, Tracie James, and Jimmy Duke, Jr.; four step great-grandchildren, Chelsey James, Sydney James, Jasper Duke, and Taytum Cameron; a step great-great-grandchild, Sailor Mae DeSalvo; two sisters, Anne Simmons and Susan Black (Bob); numerous nieces and nephews.
