Melinda Elizabeth Fitzgerald, age 96, of Dushore, PA, passed away on Saturday, July 6, 2024, at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, with her loving family at her side.
Melinda was born April 29, 1928, in Cherry Township, Sullivan County, PA, the daughter of the late Nathan Ruel and Mary Horutz Adams. She graduated from Cherry Township High School, a member of the class of 1948. She was married to Edward J. Fitzgerald of Dushore, PA, who predeceased her on February 14, 1999.
She worked for the former Weldon Mfg. Co. in Lopez, and later for Dushore Lingerie in Dushore, PA, until it closed, and lastly at the Job Corps Center at Red Rock.
Melinda was a member of St. Basil’s Church in Dushore, PA, and a member of its Altar and Rosary Society.
She was a loving spouse, mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, and great great-grandmother. She enjoyed dancing to the polka, watching the polka program on television, and doing word search, and tending her garden.

She is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, 2 great great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by a son; Dale C. Fitzgerald Sr., of Mildred, PA, on July 17, 2007; a daughter, Betty Jane Houck of Hughesville, PA, on September 3, 2010; grandsons, Edward James Fitzgerald III, of Dushore, PA, on October 16, 2012 and Patrick Bernard Broschart, of Endicott, NY, on August 4, 2022; and sisters, Kathryn H. Raub, of Dushore, PA, on February 21, 2000; Edna Slater of Mansfield, PA, on August 4, 2016; and Caroline Nettie Barber, of Athens, PA, on January 19, 2019.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at 11:00 AM, at St. Basil’s Church, Dushore, PA, with the Rev. Thomas J. Major, pastor, presiding. Interment will follow in St. Basil’s Cemetery.
