Melody Gayle Handegard

Melody Gayle Handegard, 71, of Evansville, Indiana passed away peacefully on April 16th, 2024 surrounded by her family. Melody was born on May 27th, 1952, in Massena, New York to John and Noella Summers.
She graduated from Massena High in 1970, then shortly after started her career as a mother and housewife! She had a few jobs throughout the years and made plenty of friends along the way, but ultimately at home with her family is where she wanted to be! Melody was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She adored her family and spent every second she could with them. She had a big family but wouldn't want it any other way. When she wasn't with her grandkids, she enjoyed playing bingo and loved to go bowling. Melody was a brave and strong woman with a smile and personality that could light up a room. She was so caring and was always trying to help anyone in need. She loved dancing and singing, most of the time she was the life of the party. Melody enjoyed getting up early to do her make-up and hair, then started her day by relaxing and sipping on her coffee outdoors in the sun. She was an incredible cook and loved to make meals for her family, especially on holidays. Some of her favorite dishes were cabbage rolls, lasagna and catfish!
Melody is survived by her loving husband of 50 years that she married on March 9th, 1974, Bob Handegard; her children, Bobby Handegard (Jenny) and Martina Ferguson (Donnie); her six grandchildren, Courtney Handegard (Ty), Bobby Handegard (Jacqulyn), Josh Handegard, Jade Handegard (Riece), Justin Morse, and Blazye Handegard; her 7 great grandchildren, Lilah Handegard, Taheri Pauley, Anistyn Russel, Tahla Pauley, Ariyah Russel, Charlotte Morse and Benson Handegard; her siblings, Pamela Tefft and Shayne Summers; and pets, Cujo and Mia. She was very loved!
Melody is preceded in death by her father John Summers, mother Noella Summers, brother Michael Summers, and sister Deborah Burnell.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life gathering for Melody on Monday April 22nd, 2024. Service will be held at Sunset Cemetery at the Chapel of Peace Mausoleum. Showing and visitation will be held from 11:00am 12:00pm, with service starting at 12:00pm and graveside burial will follow right after for those who would like to join.
