MELVIN ADAMS

Melvin Adams, affectionately known as “Mel”, entered peacefully into eternal rest surrounded by his loving family on Friday, December 13, 2024, at the age of 44. He was a native of New Orleans, LA and resident of Harvey, LA. Melvin was a 1999 graduate of John Ehret High School. He was employed for 24 years with the Jefferson Parish Streets Department, where he currently held the position as a Superintendent I. Devoted father of Jaylen Rhomad Adams and Shakir Ahmiri Weber; he was also instrumental in the rearing of D’Vante Adams and Billie Porche II, whom he loved as sons. Loving grandfather of Bailei Porche and Billie Porche III. Beloved son of Delores Adams and Joe Louis Gilmore. Grandson of Nancy Mae Adams and Kerman Simmons. Melvin was the nephew of Patirica Adams Bailey and David Bailey, Sr., who loved him as their son, and played a significant and influential role in his rearing from infancy to adulthood. Also cherishing his memories are his godchildren Christopher O’Connor II and Anaya Johnson, first cousin Janice Adams, devoted friend Dayna Andry, and a host of other relatives and friends. Relatives and friends of the family and employees of Jefferson Parish Streets Department, Smucker’s (Folgers), and Walmart are invited to attend the Celebration of Life at Rock of Ages Baptist Church, 6533 Acre Road, Marrero, LA on Saturday, December 21, 2024, at 10:00a.m. Pastor Terrance Ranson, host pastor; Pastor Ricky Johnson of Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Harvey, LA, officiating. Visitation will begin at 8:30a.m. until service time at the church. Interment: Woodlawn Park Memorial Cemetery-Westwego, LA.
