Mr. Melvin H. Floyd, age 92, sadly passed away in the early hours of Monday, October 10, 2025, at Legacy Village in Moultrie, Georgia.
Melvin was born on October 7, 1933, in Curryville, Georgia.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 65 years, Geraldine "Gerrye" Floyd (formerly Brackett); his children, Otis Lee Floyd and Judy M. Floyd; his brother, Leslie Floyd; and his sister, Frances Harkins.
Melvin is survived by his devoted son, Ronnie Floyd (Debbie); his granddaughter, Megan Oakes (Corey); his great-grandchildren, Caleb Oakes and Maggie Oakes; his siblings, Barbara Talley, Evelyn Ward (George), Wayne Harkins, and Sue Harkins; as well as Jimmy Davis, Gary Davis, Paige Davis, and Jess Davis, all of whom Melvin considered his grandchildren.
Melvin was a proud American, a devoted family man, and a faithful servant of the Lord. He graduated from Plainville High School in 1950, and shortly thereafter, answered the call to serve his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean conflict. Following his years of honorable service, Melvin began a long and fulfilling career with Georgia Kraft, where he worked for over 40 years and retired as a respected supervisor. His strong work ethic and steady leadership left a lasting impression on all who worked alongside him. A dedicated member of Pisgah Baptist Church, Melvin served faithfully as a deacon, sang joyfully in the choir, and participated in several mission trips, always eager to help others and share his faith. Melvin was an avid supporter of Coosa High School sports and never missed a football game. His loyalty and enthusiasm for the team earned him a plaque recognizing him as Coosa's "#1 Fan." He also loved the game of golf and enjoyed cheering on his beloved Atlanta Braves. A talented cook, Melvin was especially known for his delicious BBQ. Whether he was tending the grill or exploring new restaurants, he delighted in good food and good company. Above all else, Melvin loved his family deeply. He treasured time spent with his great-grandchildren, Caleb and Maggie, who affectionately called him "Pop Melvin." His warmth, kindness, and gentle spirit will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Melvin was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and faithful servant of both God and country. He will be sorely missed but forever cherished in the hearts of his family and friends.
A graveside service will be held at East View Cemetery on Monday, October 13, 2025, at 1:00 p.m.
