Melvin King Futrell

Mr. Melvin King Futrell, a dedicated family man and hardworking truck driver, passed away peacefully on December 30, 2023, at his home. He was born on December 31, 1938, in Northampton County, North Carolina. Mr. Futrell was 84 years old at the time of his passing.
Melvin, known for his unwavering love for music, was a part of a band called Stage Coach Pioneers that delighted audiences in nursing homes with their captivating tunes. He had a special bond with his guitar and cherished spending time feeding his enormous bass at the family pond. With a gentle call from the water's edge, he would summon his faithful fish to enjoy their meals. Aside from his musical passion, Melvin found immense joy in his family and his occupation as a truck driver. He strived to provide for his loved ones while embracing the open road. Melvin was a member of Ashley's Grove Baptist Church, where he found solace and guidance. Melvin will be dearly missed, but his memory will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate to have known him. May he rest in eternal peace.
Melvin is preceded in death by his beloved father, Franklin Futrell, caring mother, Vera Martin Futrell, cherished wife, Mary Frances Futrell, and dear sister, Katherine Allen.
He leaves behind a legacy of love and fond memories cherished by his two sons, Frank Futrell (Joy) of Ahoskie, NC, and Stacy Futrell (Anita) of Conway, NC. Additionally, Mr. Futrell will be dearly missed by his four granddaughters: Kristina Henderson (Byron) of Lake Alfred, FL, Taylor Rose (Taylor) of Ahoskie, Kelsey Byrum (Ryan) of Conway, and Katie Futrell of Wilmington. His three great-granddaughters, Vanessa Coggins, Camilla Henderson, Carson Rose, and four great-grandsons, Leland Henderson, Rory Byrum, Tru Byrum, and Hudson Rose. Mr. Futrell's special niece and caretaker, Jean Mulder, along with numerous nieces and nephews, mourn his loss deeply.
The family has made arrangements for friends and loved ones to pay their respects during visitation on Tuesday, January 2, 2024, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service-Murfreesboro Chapel in Murfreesboro, NC.
A private family burial will take place at the Futrell Family Cemetery in Murfreesboro, NC, officiated by Rev. John Porter.
