Monroe Lee, 78, of Indianapolis, formerly of Dallas, TX, left to be with the Lord on January 10th, 2020. Monroe was born in Muleshoe, TX on February 13th, 1941 to Melvin and Helen (Hammon) Lee.
Monroe attended Texas Tech University where he met his wife, married, and earned a Master's degree in Civil Engineering. After graduation, they moved to Muleshoe, TX, where he worked with his father in construction for 3 years. They then moved to Dallas, TX where he began a career in the commercial construction industry with the Henry C. Beck Company. He quickly rose through the company, was promoted to Vice President and District Manager and sent to Indianapolis, IN to head a new office in 1973. His determination and entrepreneurial spirit led him to start his own construction company in 1978, The Lee Corporation, which prospered for 20 years and later became Lee and Son Construction. Some of his professional accomplishments included major commercial projects in 9 states, including the Milwaukee, Detroit, Chicago and Indianapolis areas. Locally, he was involved in the construction of "The Gold Building" downtown, many Walmart and Lowe's stores in Indianapolis and the surrounding states. He was awarded city projects, such as the Westfield Public Library, Fisher's Town Hall & Fire Station and the award-winning renovation to Southern Plaza Mall. Out-of-state projects included several large indoor malls in Texas and Missouri.
Monroe was married 56 years and survived by his Beautiful Loving Wife, Kitsy (Pruitt) Lee, their 3 children, Monie (Sharon), Trevor, and Laurie Jones, 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
When not working, Monroe was quite accomplished and possessed many talents, allowing him to enjoy various hobbies and he stayed very active with hunting, fishing, barbecuing and traveling the world. He was a certified scuba diver and took many trips so he could see the sights both above and below water, including the Great Barrier Reef. He ran the Indianapolis Mini-Marathon several times as well as the Chicago Marathon. He had a true love of art and a talent for writing and spent much of his spare time writing Christian essays as well as poetry, which he shared with his family and friends. After he retired, he enjoyed wood carving, and spent his days whittling, receiving 1st Place, 2nd Place and Honorable Mention awards at the Indiana State Fair competition.
Monroe was a Christian and lived a life dedicated to bringing glory to the Lord. He was a deacon, Sunday school teacher and was engaged in mission work, which took him to Brazil, China & Haiti. His pro-life work led in a 21 day fast to bring awareness to the fight against abortion. He also led in the building of a new church locally and in Ribeirao Preto, Brazil.
This cherished and beloved husband, father, grandad and great-grandad will be deeply missed.

Our family would like to give a very special heart-felt Thank You to the
incredible kind and loving care provided by St. Vincent's Hospice nurse,
