Melvin Thomas "Tom" Workman, a cherished member of the Vinita community and a revered banking professional, passed away on May 31, 2025, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, at the age of ninety-two. Born on March 4, 1933, in Vinita, Oklahoma, Tom lived a life dedicated to service, family, and his cherished hobbies.
Tom devoted many years to a successful career as a banker at Oklahoma State Bank, where he specialized in developing customer relations and mentoring fellow bankers. His passion for teaching others how to gain business was marked by an unwavering commitment to his profession and the community, reflecting his dedication to financial stewardship and excellence.
A graduate of White Oak High School, Tom pursued further education at Oklahoma State University, where he cultivated both knowledge and lifelong friendships. His character was the definition of a classic gentleman, known for his grace, kindness, and integrity. Tom's interests extended beyond his professional life; he was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting, and golfing. His love for the land and nature resonated deeply with his identity as a lifetime rancher.
Tom is survived by his beloved wife, Pat; children: Michael T. Workman of Ketchum, Oklahoma; Katee and Jim Dougherty of Houston, Texas; M. Todd Workman of Vinita, Oklahoma; and Nikki and Ryan Brown of White Oak, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Chris and Alisha Workman, Liz and Stuart Rosebrough, Jessica and Steve Guillot, Matt and Kate Dougherty, Thomas and Lauren Dougherty, Sarah and Matt Eubanks, Marshall T. Workman, Mason T. Workman, Rayna Workman, and Rylee Brown; numerous great-grandchildren and a host of friends.
As we commemorate the life of Melvin Thomas "Tom" Workman, we reflect on the love he shared, the lessons he imparted, and the profound impact he had on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
The family will receive friends Thursday, June 5, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Luginbuel Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, June 6, 2025, at 11:00 AM at the First United Methodist Church of Vinita with Pastors Andrew Haire, Sr. and Stephanie Crogan officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery with Marshall Workman, Thomas Dougherty, Matt Eubanks, Chris Workman, Todd Workman, Mason Workman, Cade Rosebrough, Gavin Rosebrough, Steve Guillot, Stuart Rosebrough, Jim Dougherty, and Mike Workman serving as casket bearers. Seth Smiley, Ted Terwort, Eddie Allensworth, and Matt Dougherty will serve as honorary casket bearers, along with Tom’s close friends from Bowlin Springs.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Meals on Wheels, Neighbors Helping Neighbors, Second Chance, and PAAS in Tom’s memory. Arrangements are in the care of Luginbuel Funeral Home. “Family owned. Locally operated.”
