With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Merced Barela Jr., a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, and cherished son, brother, and friend. Merced passed away leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unforgettable memories.
Merced is survived by his beloved mother Domínica Vazquez, and his loving wife Lydia Barela. He was a proud father to his children: Christine & Kevin, Jennifer & Celestino, Corrina & Patrick, Tina Marie & Victor, Felicia, Teresa, Macario & Jennifer, and Jesse & Ashley.
He was a treasured grandfather to Searrah & Edward, Marcus & Emily, Ziva, Damian, Evangelina, Desiree & Edgar, Izaiah & Lissette, Alize, Annalie, Joel, Gabriela, Olivia, Eleanora, and Viviana. His legacy continues through his great-grandchildren, Santiago and Dahlia, who brought him great joy.
Merced is also survived by his siblings: Pete, Manuel, Ralph, Freddy, Ernest, and his sister Corrina, all of whom shared in his deep love for family.
Merced was known for his unwavering devotion to his loved ones. He was a true family man, the heart of every gathering, and a source of strength and laughter. He had a passion for fishing, a green thumb for gardening, and a joyful soul that lit up the dance floor. A loyal fan of the Houston Astros and the Dallas Cowboys, Merced always cheered with pride and passion.
His absence leaves a void in many hearts, but his spirit lives on in the stories shared, the love he gave, and the memories treasured by all who knew him.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
