Meredith Anne (Moreland) Dawes passed away on Sunday, October 22nd, 2023, at home in Austin, Texas after a long and hard-fought battle against ovarian cancer. A memorial service will be held for Meredith at 10:30 a.m. on November 4th, 2023, at First Baptist Church in Dripping Springs, Texas.
Meredith was born on April 4th, 1972, in Fort Worth, Texas, and in 1977 was adopted, along with her brother Scott, by Otis and Anne (Lindsay) Moreland. She grew up in Texas and Colorado, graduating from Air Academy High School in 1991 in Colorado Springs. Meredith married Sacha Dawes at 2 pm on February 2nd, 2002, at the University Chapel at the University of Houston; a moment that she famously referred to as "02, 02, 02, at 2!".
Meredith was a dearly loved daughter, sister, wife, and mom, and with her vibrant and giving personality she became a beloved friend to many. She started her career in sales and mortgage, after which she took on many new vocations including becoming a soccer coach, a cub scout leader, and a business owner - all while she successfully balanced being a mom and wife.
A core passion and trait of Meredith was in encouraging, supporting, and loving her family and friends. When you got to connect with and know Meredith, you ended up loving her as much as she loved you.
Meredith was a loving and devoted wife, who provided unwavering love and unlimited support to her husband through 21 years of marriage and 26 years of friendship. As a mom, she did everything with her son as the center of her world and was a constant presence with him as he grew up. As he transitioned into school, she was his biggest advocate and got involved as a substitute teacher, room mom, coordinator of school functions and events, and more. Meredith was always driving some fun and engaging activity with family and friends, from going to school and professional sports events (especially for her beloved Broncos!), to pumpkin carving, helping others with her makeup, providing wreath-making tips, her Facebook Live sessions, running and attending social events; the list goes on.
Meredith is survived by her parents, Otis and Anne Moreland; her husband, Sacha; her son, Jason; and her brother, Jon. She is preceded in death by her brothers Scott and Kyle Moreland.
Family and friends are invited to share stories, prayers, memories, and photos of Meredith's virtual celebration of life at https://www.newlywords.com/celebrating-mere
Meredith was a beacon of light to her family and friends, and while she will be greatly missed, we are comforted knowing she is out of pain and within His loving arms.
"In her memory or in lieu of flowers for the memorial of Meredith, we are collecting donations for the nurses from Texas Oncology and Austin Hospice who supported her and who she built strong relationships with. Donations welcomed through https://gofund.me/b3ed1848"
