Merrillyn Jean (Green) Stewart, 86 of Excelsior Springs, Missouri stepped out of her jar of clay and into the arms of Jesus at her daughter's home in Nesbit, Mississippi on January 8, 2025. She was born on March 27, 1938 in Bosworth, Missouri to Merrill "MM" Martin and Blanche Marie (Baugher) Green.
Merrillyn graduated from Carrollton High School, class of 1956 and received an associate's degree in aviation from Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri. She married Sidney "Dave" David Stewart on July 27, 1958, at Stephens Chapel in Columbia, MO.
Merrillyn was a dedicated and loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend.
Dave and Merrillyn lived in Richmond, Missouri, Coralville, Iowa and Iowa City, Iowa. After the death of Merrillyn's father, MM, Blanche Green moved to Lee's Summit, MO, selling the house she and MM built in Excelsior Springs, Missouri to Dave and Merrillyn.
Merrillyn and her husband Dave worked with her siblings, Donnie B Green and James Lee Green, along with their spouses in Green Quarries, Inc. that was founded by MM Green. Upon retirement from Green Quarries, Dave and Merrillyn moved to Polk City, Florida to become "snowbird" residents there. They loved to travel all over the country with family, friends and their motorhome groups. They shared the love of playing golf, bridge and other games with the many groups and associations they belonged to. Merrillyn was also involved in Beta Sigma Phi and PEO for many years.
Merrillyn was known as a very kind and loving person. One of her greatest joys was entertaining and cooking for her family, friends and guests. She is probably most famously known for her homemade ice cream. It is by far the best ice cream ever made, although her very favorite ice cream was a chocolate shake from the Burger Bar (Dairy Barn) in Carrollton, Missouri or Potbelly's in Olive Branch, Mississippi.
Merrillyn is survived by her two children, Sidney "Sid" David Stewart II and his wife Penny of Kearney, Missouri, and Sherrillyn "Sherri" Marie Howard and her husband Randy of Nesbit, Mississippi; nine grandchildren, Mindy Nichelle Stewart, Lindsay Brianne Johnson (Casey), Sidney "Trey" David Stewart III, Jessillyn "Jessi" Jean Howard, Mikaele "Kaele" Marie Rector (Nathan), Rebekah "Bekah" Joel Howard, Amanda Nicole Kiesling, Shannon Lee Kiesling, and Erik Ryan Kiesling; six great-grandchildren, Blaise Eugene Johnson, Maddox Brayden Stewart, Avery Zella Stewart, Elyse Hope Rector, Elaina Joy Rector, Leo Michael Rector; one brother, James Lee Green and his wife Vickie; and many nieces and nephews.
Merrillyn was preceded in death by her parents, MM and Blanche Green, her brother Donnie Green and her husband Dave.
Visitation will be held from 10:00am to 11:00am, Saturday, March 15, 2025 at the Orrick Christian Church in Orrick, Missouri. A Memorial Service will follow at 11:00am. A brief Burial Service will be held at 2:00pm at Oak Hill Cemetery in Carrollton, Missouri.
To all of Merrillyn's friends throughout the years: Merrillyn would consider each of you as her Honorary Pallbearer by walking beside her through the ups and downs, twists and turns of life. She loved you all and we thank you for your friendship, love, and support.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations to the Orrick Christian Church. Donations may be left at or mailed to the Orrick Christian Church at 401 E. South Front St, Orrick, MO 64077.
