Obituary of Mervin Dean Eid
Mervin Dean Eid, age 84, of Burnsville, Minnesota, died peacefully surrounded by family on October 8, 2024, after a 10-year struggle with vascular dementia and other medical issues. Merv was born on February 7, 1940, in Crookston, Minnesota, to Norman and Olive (Sulerud) Eid.
He had many fond memories of growing up in the small town of Gary, Minnesota, where he graduated from Gary High School in 1958. After graduating from the University of Minnesota in 1962, Merv taught math and physics at LaCrosse Central High School for two years. Merv then transitioned to computer programming at Univac. Merv worked at Univac and its successors(Sperry and Unisys) for the remainder of his career.
Merv met and married Jeanette Klug in 1965. Merv and Jeanette lived for a year in Virginia Beach, Virginia, where Merv worked on a Navy Defense project. They returned to Minnesota and settled in Burnsville, where they resided for over 57 years. There, they almost immediately made Prince of Peace Lutheran Church their faith community.
Merv enjoyed sports, especially UM Women's Basketball; the math world of numbers, statistics and probability; golf, fishing, and running; table games and cards; nature, especially trees; travel and family times together.
Merv was preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Olive Eid; infant brother, Norris; brother, Clark, and sister-in-law, Libby; and sister-in-law, Jodi Klug.
Merv is survived by his wife, Jeanette; sons, John and Matthew (Terea); daughter, Karen Ehlers (Bob); grandchildren Maggie (Eddie) Miller; Emma Ehlers (Kael) and Gwena Ehlers, Carter and Whalan Eid; brothers-in-law, James (Barb) and Jeff (Karol) Klug; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Celebration of Life for Merv will be on October 21, at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, in Burnsville, MN, with visitation at 10:00AM and service at 11:00AM.
