Michael Wayne Barnes, 56, of Greenbrier, Tennessee passed away unexpectedly on October 3, 2024. He was born March 30, 1968, in Nashville, Tennessee, to Joe and Judy Barnes.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Judy Barnes.
Those left behind to cherish his memory are beloved daughter, Lindsey (Garrett) Wilkinson, father, Joe Barnes, brother, Joey Barnes, a multitude of aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Mike was a simple soul that enjoyed the quiet pleasures of family and friends. He was an avid Alabama fan and donned his favorite raggedy tee shirt and hat to show his support.
Mike was a hard worker all his life and spent his career as a procurement agent for the department of education for the State of Tennessee. In his free time, he loved spending time with his favorite pals, his dachshunds, Jasmine and Ginger. His greatest accomplishment in life was his daughter, Lindsey; rooting on her alma mater, Tennessee Tech, in gold and purple despite his abiding love of Alabama.
Friends and family will always smile fondly with memories of Mike's love of Golly G's ice cream and homegrown tomatoes. Mike will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him.

I will truly miss Mike. Whenever I called him, he was always willing to help me or any of us in TDOE. Although he would make a fuss, he said to come back if we needed anything else. There is no one like him. Thank you for sharing him with us.

My heart goes out to Lindsey, dad, and Mike's two babies! He often talked about each out you. Mike was one of the first to show kindness when I started TDOE eight years ago. Our friendship only grew stronger. By the time covid sent us to work from home, Mike was a true blessing to me. I knew that all I had to do was call and I would have a friend on the line. He kept me in tears laughing with his banter. He was one of a kind, and will be dearly missed.

I only met Mike a few times when in Nashville or a time or two when he came to Tennessee School for the Deaf for work related reasons. I probably talked to him on the phone hundreds of times before I retired. He was my go to person when I needed something procurement related. We were work friends. He was always so very nice and helpful. Fly high Mike! I will miss knowing you´re not here in Tennessee.

Lindsey, I am so sorry for your loss. Mike and I worked together at TDOE. He was a great friend and colleague. He always put a smile on my face. Living in Cookeville, he always shared how you were doing and going to Ralph's donut. He will be missed!!
