Born Dec. 27, 1951, Richard Allen Haggard: the man, the myth, the (local) legend, left his earthly home for his heavenly home in the early hours of August 15, 2025, at the Nashville VA hospital, surrounded by loving family and caring staff. The big heart he was so well known for finally gave out. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Rebecca Haggard, his sister Ruby Louise, and nephew, Larry Tidwell. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Dora, his son, Steven (Amanda) Haggard, daughter, Amanda (Ernest) Duval, (eight adoring grandchildren who thought he hung the moon). He is also survived by brothers, James - Skeeter (Cheryl) Haggard, Roger (Wilma)Haggard, Ted Haggard, sisters Pam (Doug) Kearney and Gayla Haggard, loving aunts Rauline and Faye, in-laws Tina Jasper, Millie (Harry) Long, Cliff (Patricia) Simmons and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, dear friends, and countless leather clad brothers and sisters in CMA and BFC. Richard worked as a mechanic and maintenance supervisor at Universal Tire for nearly 30 years, served 6 years in the US Navy, during and after the Vietnam War, and 11 ½ years in the TN Army National Guard. He was a former Chief of the Two Rivers Volunteer Fire and Rescue. He was a former member of Bikers for Christ and a current member of Christian Motorcyclist Association. He loved to tell people about salvation through Jesus Christ. He was formerly a member of SWAT racing team at Nashville Fairgrounds, an avid woodworker, he was THE best Santa on the planet. Richard was also an ordained minister. His Memorial Service, with military honors, will be Saturday, August 23, 2025 with a visitation from 11 am until service time at 2pm at Bethlehem FWB Church, 1709 Hwy 12 N Ashland City. Flowers are welcome but donations can be made to Richard's 2 favorite charities, Run for the Son (CMA ministry project) or Bethlehem FWB church building fund. Arrangements entrusted to Spring Hill Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5110 Gallatin Pike, Nashville, TN 37216, 615-865-1101, https://www.springhillfh.com.
