Benson, NC: Mr. Michael Owen Blackman, age 63, died Saturday, January 11, 2025 at UNC Johnston Health in Smithfield surrounded by his loving family. Graveside Funeral services will be 2:00PM Friday, January 17, 2025 in Roselawn Cemetery in Benson. Officiating will be Rev. Glenn McCullen.
Michael was born on January 24, 1961 in Harnett County to the late Charles Howard Blackman and Josephine Cobb Rains. He was preceded in death by his brother, John Blackman, and a step-son, Stephen Askew. Michael was a retired public-school carpentry teacher and a dedicated coach. He loved to fish, ride his motorcycle, and playing the guitar. Michael enjoyed listening to bluegrass music, spending time with his family, and was known for a good scare.
Surviving includes his wife of 35 years, Marsha Blackman; children, Crystal Knuckles and husband, Justin, Michael Blackman and wife, Tiffany, Brittany Roberts and husband, Cody, Natalie Finklestein and husband, Josh; grandchildren, Joshua, Khristian, Raylen, Alex, Carter, Connor, Evelyn, Harper, Bristol, Colson, and Arlo due to be born in May; brother, Tony Blackman and wife, Wanda; several nieces and nephews that loved their “Monkey Mike”.
The family will receive friends 6:00PM – 8:00PM Thursday, January 16, 2025 at the Rose and Graham Funeral Home in Benson and other times at the home, 501 N. Elm Street, Benson, NC 27504.
