Michael Borts Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sawyer-Fuller Funeral Home & Cremation Services on Oct. 18, 2023.
Michael Allen Borts, a man with a generous heart who loved the solitude of the great outdoors, the laughter of his children, playing catch with his dogs, and the breathless beauty of the natural world, peacefully passed away on October 16, 2023, in Southfield, Michigan. Born on January 10, 1955, Michael lived a fulfilling life full of love, laughter, and cherished memories.
Michael was the beloved husband of Babette Hotchkiss, whom he married on January 3, 1996, in Port Huron, Michigan. Their love story was one of mutual interests in nature, greater learning, and debating the finer aspects of life. What mattered most in life to Michael and Babette was their family-siblings, friends, and numerous pets-though nothing was more precious to them than their two children, Kayleann and Quentin. Michael's love for his family was evident in every aspect of his life, especially in his loving and supportive roles as husband and father.
He was the cherished brother of John (Penny) Borts, Kathy (Ross) Seguin, Richard (Kim) Borts, the late Sue Borts, and George (Maggie) Borts. Michael's relationship with his siblings was marked by a deep bond of love, respect, and camaraderie that stood the test of time. His family will remember him as a beacon of support and love, always ready with a kind word or a helping hand.
Michael's educational journey led him to earn certificates as an electrical apprentice. He honed his skills by rewiring his house and helping others with electrical tasks. His professional life was marked by a long career as a truck driver for H.J. Oldenkamp where he was known for his dedication, reliability, and hard-work ethic. Michael was not just a colleague but a friend to many, always ready with a smart quip, a word of advice, or shoulder to lean on.
Aside from his work, Michael had a passion for making something useful out of spare parts, like when he made a vacuum out of an old paint bucket, some coaster wheels, and the motor of a wet-dry vac. Woodworking was a favorite hobby that allowed him to express his creativity and craftsmanship. He took great joy in creating beautiful pieces of furniture and decor, each one a testament to his skill and attention to detail. He also cherished spending time with his family, creating memories that will be treasured forever.
Michael's love extended beyond his human family to his furry companions, Valick and the late Harley, Bowser, and Sable (Mabel). His pets brought him immense joy, and their companionship was a source of comfort and happiness to him. His love for animals was a reflection of his generous and loving nature.
Michael will be remembered as a loving family man, a generous friend, and creative spirit. His love for routine, his sharp mind, and his presence brought solidly reliable comfort to those around him. He lived his life on his own terms by his own standards, never bowing to idiotic trends or senseless etiquette. He was a man of common sense, decency, and practicality.
In his passing, we celebrate a life well lived, remembering the love he shared, the lives he touched, and the memories he created. Michael's legacy will live on in the hearts of his loved ones, a constant reminder of the love, generosity, and quick wit that marked his life. As we bid him farewell, we take comfort in the knowledge that his spirit lives on in the lives he touched and the love he shared.
Rest in peace, Michael Allen Borts. Your memory will forever be etched in our hearts-a beacon of love and kindness that will inspire us for years to come.
Memorial service is Saturday, 3:00 p.m., Zion Lutheran Church, 143 Albany Street, Ferndale, MI 48220, with Rev. Pastor Matthew Bode officiating.
In lieu of flowers, Michael's family appreciatively requests memorial contributions to the Detroit Dog Rescue, or an animal rescue of your choice.
