Michael Charles Carbone, 77, a lifelong resident of Pequannock Township, passed away on Monday, October 28, 2024.
Born in Paterson, NJ, Michael was the son of Michael and Joan (Van Keuren) Carbone. He was raised in Pompton Plains and graduated from Pequannock Township High School in 1965. Michael attended Ricker College in Maine, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree, and also served his country in the U.S. Army. During the Vietnam War, he was stationed with the 25th Military Intelligence Company of the 25th "Tropic Lightning" Division out of Schofield Barracks in Hawaii, serving at the Chi Chu Chi Basecamp in Southern Vietnam while on active duty, and also served in the U.S. Army Reserves until he was honorably discharged.
Upon completion of his military service, Michael worked in Quality Control, with his last position held at Components Corporation in Denville, before his retirement.
Michael attended The First Reformed Church of Pompton Plains and was a member of the church's Chancel Choir for many years. He shared a passion for flying with his father, a retired Air Force major, and earned his pilot's license at the young age of 16. Flying remained one of Michael's lifelong joys.
Michael was known for his love of routine and dedication to his daily tasks. He was an enthusiastic lottery player, specifically scratch-off tickets, and even once won a Ford Mustang Convertible on a "second chance drawing". He also enjoyed participating in a puzzle exchange group and spending time with numerous local Senior Communities where he shared many meals with friends.
Michael is survived by numerous uncles, aunts, and cousins.
A small graveside service will be held at 10am Saturday November 30th at the First Reformed Church cemetery in Pompton Plains.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Disabled Veterans of America would be greatly appreciated.
