Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ratterman Brothers Funeral Home - St. Matthews on Mar. 14, 2025.
Michael Edward Conliffe, 86, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on March 14th, 2025.
He was born on October 5, 1938, to the late William Joseph and Jeannette (Baker) Conliffe. Mike grew up in the West End, attended Christ the King Grade School, and graduated from Flaget High School in 1956. He often spoke fondly of his childhood in the West End, especially his time spent at Flaget and Shawnee Golf Course.
Mike went on to attend Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio, where he played golf for four years, graduating in 1960. He then pursued a law degree at the University of Louisville Law School, earning his Juris Doctor degree in 1963.
Mike practiced law for many years at Miller, Conliffe, Sandmann, Gorman & Sullivan. In 1986, he was elected Jefferson County Attorney, serving three terms until 1998.
During his term as County Attorney, Mike implemented the VINE (victim notification) program and the Domestic Violence Unit. He was also well known for his strict enforcement of child support collections.
Beyond his legal career, Mike was actively involved in various organizations, including CASA, the Baker-Geary-Dunne Foundation, the Louisville Bar Association, and John Y. Brown's gubernatorial campaign. Mike served as the chairman of the Jefferson County Democratic Party. He was proud of his leadership in the inception of the Kentucky Junior Golf Foundation. He also served the Kentucky Golf Association and Kentucky PGA for many years.
In addition to his presence in charitable organizations, Mike was actively involved at Big Spring Country Club. A member for over 60 years, Mike served on the board and developed many lifelong friendships. Golf was a central part of Mike's life, and he often proudly recalled his ten holes-in-one.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Tim Conliffe, and the mother of his children, Barbara "Bo" (Ohligschlager) Conliffe.
He is survived by his four children:Michelle Feger (Tim), Drew Conliffe, Chris Conliffe (Scott), and Dana Kirchdorfer (Jimmy). He was also a beloved grandfather to Jordan, Erin, and Kylie Feger, and Jay and Emma Kirchdorfer. He is further survived by his sisters-in-law, Barbara Conliffe and Rosemary Ohligschlager, as well as nieces, nephews, and several close friends.
A funeral Mass to celebrate Mike's life will be held on Tuesday, March 18th, at 10:00 AM at Holy Trinity Catholic Church (423 Cherrywood Road). Visitation will be held on Monday, March 17th, from 3–7 PM at Ratterman's Funeral Home 3711 Lexington Road, St. Matthews.

I have known Mike for close to sixty years. He was a very fine man and a good attorney. He represented me a couple of times and I always admired him. He did love golf. I had occasion to call his house one day and he was out on the golf course, in the rain and if I recall it was very late in the year. His wife and I chatted about the cold day and how we wouldn't be out there in the rain on such a day. This is a great loss to his family and the community. Rest in Peace Mike.
