Michael E. Cooney, 71, of Winston, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, October 5, 2025. He was born on September 5, 1954, the son of the late Arthur Cooney and the late Rosalie Heinzen Cooney.
Michael cherished every moment spent with his loved ones and he created lasting memories filled with laughter and joy. He was a passionate traveler, who explored the beauty of the world, setting foot in all fifty states and roaming across world. His hobbies included cruising, camping, hiking, and attending concerts.
Michael's life was a celebration of experiences and connections. He inspired those around him to enjoy every second of life.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Timothy Cooney.
He is survived by his wife, Nicolette Kontoulas Cooney; daughter and son-in-law, Tara and Joseph Jr. Bogozan of Douglasville; son, Stephen M. Cooney of Winston; sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Rob Gribbroek of Sebastian, Fl; brothers and sister-in-law, John and Gaye Cooney of Vero Beach and Patrick Cooney of Chicago; two grandchildren, Abigail Bogozan and Landon Bogozan; numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Friday, October 10, 2025 from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home Villa Rica Chapel with a funeral service at 10:00 AM with Rev. Patrick Brown officiating. Entombment will follow at Meadowbrook Memory Gardens Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Michael's memory to the Douglas County or Paulding County Animal Shelter or The Salvation Army.
In honoring Michael's memory, we reflect on a life with love and adventure. He will be missed dearly by all who had the privilege to know him.
