Our beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away Friday, October 17, 2025, at McLaren Bay Region, age 60 years. Michael was born May 15, 1965, in Midland, Michigan, the son of Michael and Diane (Blasdell) Courtney.
Michael graduated from Midland Dow High School. On September 5, 1995, he married the love of his life, Julie A. Smith, and she survives him. He retired from Meijer after 25 years of dedicated service at the Wilder Road location in the Meat Department. Michael was a member of Our Lady of Peace Parish – St. Mary's Church in Bay City.
Michael enjoyed watching horror movies and spending time with his family - even time spent with his mother-in-law, which he always found special. He was one of the best and greatest fathers anyone could ever have, and his love for his family was endless.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Julie, five children: James "J.R." (Chloe) Gillard, Robert Reinig, Krystal Hafner, Michael M. (Judy) Courtney, and Summer Courtney (fiancé Michael Smith); seven grandchildren; his mother, Diane Blasdell; brother, Boyd Bratcher, sister, Beth Courtney, and mother-in-law Joanne King.
Michael was preceded in death by his father, Michael Courtney, brother, Steve Courtney, father-in-law Robert King, and son-in-law, John Hafner.
Michael will be deeply missed and forever remembered for his humor, his kindness, and the love he shared with everyone around him.
Per Michael's request, cremation will take place. A Celebration of his life will be planned for a later date. Those planning an expression of sympathy may consider memorial contributions to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Michael's honor.
