Michael Cameron Crummey of Glennville, Georgia, passed away on his 88th birthday at Glenvue Health and Rehab under the care of Georgia Hospice.
Michael was born in Glennville, Georgia on November 12, 1937 to Willie Cameron and Ida Pearl Futch Crummey and lived here all of his life. He was a proud graduate of Glennville High School, class of 1955, where his athletic abilities were evident as he was named an All State Football Player in 1953 while playing as a Tight End.
His strong work ethic was a hallmark of his character, guiding him through a diverse and accomplished career that spanned several decades. For ten years, he was employed with the Department of Transportation (DOT). Mike owned and operated Dixie Motors from 1964 until the mid-1970s, a venture that showcased his entrepreneurial spirit. His passion for the retail gas industry saw him become self-employed, during which he purchased two gas stations from Phillips 66 in both Glennville and Claxton. Alongside this, he ran a tire business that flourished during the same period.
Mike's love for bird dogs and the outdoors led him to establish National Kennels in the 1960s and 1970s, where he raised and trained bird dogs that were shipped across the Southeastern United States. This venture was a reflection of his hobbies and interests, which included hunting doves and quail, drag racing, enjoying classic westerns and spending leisurely moments riding in his pickup truck.
In addition to his impressive career, Michael served his country for a short time in the Georgia Army National Guard, where he took up the essential role of a cook during his service.
