Michael Dickerson Obituary

Published by Legacy on Oct. 1, 2025.
Michael Jeffrey Dickerson, 71, passed away with his wife of 48 years and his eldest daughter by his side Sunday morning, August 3rd, 2025. Michael suffered a stroke at his home in Daytona Beach, Florida the previous Wednesday and was hospitalized at Advent Health Hospital before passing.
Michael was born In Van Buren, Maine on May 7th, 1954. As a teenager he wanted a better life for himself and enlisted in the United States Air Force at the age of 19. After serving for 21 years, he honorably retired at the rank of Master Sergeant.
Michael met the love of his life, Patricia, and they were married in 1977. They grew their family with two daughters. Michael was a tremendous provider and mentor to his daughters.
While in the military, Michael had his own mentor who taught him about auto sales. Throughout his military career he would buy and sell cars, and after his retirement he started a business (Country Car Sales in Canaan, Maine) with his father and brother.
Michael was smart, a creative problem solver, and most of all he loved helping others solve their problems. Michael was very generous. He became personally invested and made huge impacts in the lives of many.
Michael and Patricia were world travelers and visited over 40 countries. Most notable was a World Cruise lasting 92 days. Michael's sense of adventure brought them unique experiences. They would often leave the beaten path to explore on their own.
As a disabled military veteran, Michael was no stranger to health issues. He was strong willed and outlived doctors' initial life expectancy by more than two decades, all while enjoying his favorite foods and regularly sleeping only a few hours a night because "Sleep is for the weak." His favorite sleep alternatives were puzzles and games. He was always up for one more game of Canasta.
Michael is survived by his wife Patricia Dickerson, daughter Kristin Thompson and husband John Thompson, brother Brian Dickerson and wife Michele Dickerson, sister-in-law Lynda Dunaway, niece and nephew Lisa and Nathan Ferland, and over one hundred nephews, nieces, cousins, foster siblings, and in-laws, mostly from the New England area.
He was predeceased by his beloved daughter Jessica Joan Dickerson, mother and father Ruby and Jack Dickerson, and special aunt Auntie Faye.
Those who knew Michael will remember him for his generous spirit, his unique sense of humor, and his ability to have a heartfelt conversation with anyone he met.
Special Note: Generous even after death, as an organ donor Michael's donation will improve the vision of two recipients.
