Michael Edward Ervin

Michael Edward Ervin of Redding, CA, lost his hard fought battle against renal cell cancer on August 3, 2023 at the age of 66, peacefully and while surrounded by his family.
Michael, fondly known as Mikee, was born to Margaret and Edward Ervin on January 12, 1957, in Redding, CA. He attended Anderson schools K-12, and was a member of both the football and golf teams prior to graduating from Anderson Union High School in 1975 and attending Shasta College thereafter.
Michael married Julie Snider on August 20, 1977. Together they had two children he was immensely proud of, and he was a loving Papa to his grandchildren.
Michael literally grew up on the golf course, taking up golf in the 6th grade to play alongside his Dad. Together they won the Tucker Oaks parent- offspring tournament in 1973, and Mike won this same tournament again 30 years later in 2003 with his son, KC.
It only seemed fitting to make his love for the game his profession, with a career at Anderson Tucker Oaks that spanned over 50 years. At 16 years old, Mike was hired by Clark Good as a ball boy picking up the range, and then spent time in the pro shop before moving out onto the course and working for Albert Banuelos as a night waterman. Mike continued to be given more responsibilities and learn the trade through the guidance of Albert and Carleen Banuelos. They became family to Michael and presented him the opportunity to eventually become the golf course superintendent at Tucker Oaks. The course became his home away from home and he could often be found socializing at the 19th hole at the end of his work day or after a round of golf. His best day on the course had to be March 18, 2004 when he made his first and only hole in one on #8 at Tucker.
Over the years, Mike's golfing buddies became more like his family - a band of brothers they would say. These friendships meant the world to him.
Michael is survived by his wife of 46 years, Julie; son, KC (Sarah) Ervin; daughter, Jamie (Ben) Johnson; grandsons, Trevor and Joshua Ervin; granddaughters, Makenna Ervin and Parker Johnson; sisters, Eileen (Chuck) Dugan and Loreen Ervin. He was preceded in death by his parents Margaret and Edward Ervin, and granddaughter Angelea Ervin.
Michael's Celebration of Life will be held at Pathway Church at 777 Loma Vista Dr in Redding on September 2 at 10:30am.
