Michael J. Fager

Michael J. Fager of Williamsburg, VA died at home on March 28, 2024. Mary Beth, his wife of 54 years, was by his side. This ended his 3 year battle with pulmonary fibrosis.
He treasured his growing up in the small rural town of Waterford, CA. He had many stories he enjoyed telling of mischief and fun with his four siblings. The first time he sang a solo was in the Waterford Church of the Brethren he was five years old. Michael attended Oakdale High School, Modesto Jr. College, San Jose State University, and UC Berkeley. He received a master's degree in music from San Jose State. Michael loved singing. He appeared in many operas, operettas, and musical comedies. Music was his passion. For many years he was a business banker. He ended his career as a government relations officer for Genworth Financial. After living 55 years in California he, along with 65 other Genworth employees relocated to Richmond, VA. It was a joyous move. He and Mary Beth were able to see the eastern states like they had never imagined. Michael was a history buff so there have been many wonderful trips. Ten years ago, he retired and moved to Williamsburg. He served as a regular soloist at Williamsburg First Church of Christ Scientist, and he often sang solos at his own church, St. Martin's Episcopal Church. He also volunteered weekly for Senior Connections in Richmond where he helped people with Medicare issues.
Michael was predeceased by his parents, Cecil and Dorthy Fager; his oldest brother, Bill; his sister, Susan Fager Johnson. He is survived by his bothers Ed (wife Helen) and Jerry Fager (wife Dorthy). He has four nieces.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at St. Martin's Episcopal Church, 1333 Jamestown Rd. Williamsburg, Va.
