Michael T. Fitzsimmons, known fondly to friends and family as Fitz, passed away peacefully on May 3, 2025, at the age of 80. Born on October 19, 1944, in the Bronx, NY, Michael lived a full and spirited life marked by dedication to his community, love for his family, and a gentle nature that endeared him to all.
Michael proudly served his country in the Navy from 1966 to 1988, a period of his life that instilled in him the values of honor and commitment. After his service, he continued to embody these principles through his active involvement in the Lake Carmel Fire Department. As a past President, past Lieutenant, and life member, Michael's leadership and willingness to serve were an inspiration to many.
In 1973, Michael married his beloved wife Ann at St. Helen's in the Bronx, and together they shared a life filled with love and joy. Their family grew to include a son, Matthew, and a daughter, Erin, both of whom brought immense pride and happiness to Fitz's life. He was a cherished brother to his sister Eileen and was predeceased by his respected son-in-law Edward. Michael's playful spirit shone brightest around his granddog Dora, with whom he shared a special bond.
Michael's love for his community was perhaps most evident during the holiday season when he enjoyed playing Santa for the Lake Carmel Fire Department. His portrayal of Santa brought laughter and joy to countless children and adults alike, embodying the loving and gentle spirit that Michael carried with him always.
Those who knew Michael will remember him for his unwavering spirit, his loving heart, and his gentleness towards all living beings. He leaves behind a legacy of service, kindness, and an infectious smile that could light up a room.
Michael T. Fitzsimmons is survived by his wife Ann, his sister Eileen, his son Matthew, his daughter Erin, and his granddog Dora. His memory will be cherished, and his presence deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Michael's departure leaves a void that can never be filled, but his spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and the many lives he touched.
