Michael James Mike Geers was born July 3rd, 1945 in Keokuk, Lee County, Iowa to Glen Herman Geers and Maxine Bernice Hamilton. His parents were Willard and Maxine Herrmuth, as Mike never met his birth father. Mike and his two siblings Neil (Bronson) Herrmuth and Vickie Herrmuth Doty grew up as a Military family moving frequently. Mike is survived by his wife of 38 years Joan Felder Geers and has two children with their spouses Dawn and Ken Bryant of Yukon, OK and Matt and Melissa Geers of Lewisville, TX. Mike has three grandchildren Madison, Evan, and Aiden Dukes all of Yukon.
Mike graduated from George Washington University, Washington, D.C. in 1972. He was a Captain in the United States Marine Corps. He went to Officer Candidate School at Quantico and served our country in Vietnam. As a combat veteran, he was heavily involved in the Yukon Veteran s Museum and loved being in parades with his WWII Willy s Military Jeep with his friend Mac. He was Vice Commander of the American Legion Post 160 and served as an Ambassador for the Oklahoma Military Hall of Fame. He was proud to take the Honor Flight with WWII veteran, Calvert Dukes, great grandfather to his Grandchildren to Washington D.C.
Mike and Joan have lived in Yukon for over 38 years. Mike loved Yukon and appreciated that Yukon hosted fireworks just for him on his Birthday, July 3rd and then for Uncle Sam the next day. He served on the Yukon Planning Commission, Chamber of Commerce, Yukon Economic Development Committee and was a member of the Rotary Club of Yukon. He enjoyed being a member of the Thursday Morning Men s Bible Study at St. John Nepomuk and hosting Confirmation Classes in his home. He owned a commercial real estate business in Yukon and was a Real estate broker and agent. Mike and Joan met through real estate and settled in Yukon, Oklahoma.
Mike really lived for his wife, children and his grandchildren. He loved being a part of the duo PaPa and G.G. He enjoyed everything about being a grandparent, from the sports activities, pool parties, birthday parties, school activities, being a chauffeur, all the holidays and vacations, and most of all the hugs. He was also PaPa to several grand Dogs too!
Mike had several hobbies, other than his grandkids. He also enjoyed music, playing the guitar, song writing, and snake hunting. He loved physical fitness and working out at the various Yukon gyms. He ran almost every day. He ran the OKC Bombing Memorial marathon and several others. He placed first in his age group (even though there was only one person in his age group!)
Mike has been fighting the good fight with cancer the last two years and finally succumbed to complications on June 8, 2022. He was a loving spouse, great father, and wonderous PaPa to his grandchildren. Mike adored Joan and treated her as a princess. He set an amazing example of what a Christian man should be for his family. His family remembers him never speaking an unkind word about anyone. He was absolutely taken before it was time and will be truly missed by all.
Donations may be made to Yukon Veteran s Museum, 1010 W Main, Yukon, OK 73099.
Viewing will be held 1:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m., with the family present from 5:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m., Sunday, June 12, 2022, at the funeral home. A Rosary service will be held at 9:30 a.m., followed by Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, June 13, at St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church, Yukon, with interment following at the Yukon Cemetery.
