It is with great sadness that the family of Michael G. Seaman of Arlington Heights, IL, announces his passing, on Sunday, November 21, 2021, at the age of 84 years.
Mike, who was preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine, will be forever remembered by his children Thomas (Wenting), Michael Jr. (Francesca), Katie Reeves (David), and Patrick (Beth). He will also be lovingly remembered by his 16 grandchildren: David, Charles, Mattia, Joseph, Nicholas, Ryan, Madeline, Julia, Selene, Eric, Amelia, Hannah, Sabina, Joseph, Matthew, and Chiara. Mike is survived by his sisters, Rita (Seaman) Pinkowski of Portland, OR, and Nancy Seaman of Portland, OR, and was preceded in death by his sister Barbara (Seaman) Kelley, of St. Louis, MO.
Faith and family were the two constants in Michael's life. Raised by Gil and Rita Seaman in Elmhurst and Oak Park, IL, Mike attended Immaculate Conception Catholic Grade School in Elmhurst, followed by St. Ignatius College Prep in Chicago. He then attended University of Notre Dame, majoring in finance, and later earned an MBA from The University of Chicago.
It was through one of Mike's closest friends from Notre Dame that he was invited to attend a mixer soon after graduation, at nearby Rosary College in River Forest, IL (currently Dominican University), and where he met his wife of 55 years, Geraldine (Lauerman) Seaman. Mike and Jerry raised four children and you can chronicle their lives together by both the cities in which they lived and the parishes to which they belonged. Although Palatine was the town they called home for most of their married life, they also lived and raised children in Oak Park, IL, Pleasanton, CA, Coral Springs, FL, and even Schlossborn, Germany and lived their final years together in Arlington Heights, IL. In addition, for many years they enjoyed spending time at their family vacation home in Door County, WI.
Michael spent the majority of his career working at Motorola, starting in 1968 and remaining until his retirement in 1996. During his time there, he was blessed to form many of his most lasting friendships. As much as he enjoyed his work at Motorola, retirement allowed more time for travels with Jerry, visits with children and grandchildren, and also finding new ways to live his faith. He was on the finance committee of his alma mater, St. Ignatius; he and Jerry spent many years sharing their time and talent at an underserved Catholic elementary school on Chicago's south side, St. Michael's; and he became much more involved with his home parish of Holy Family in Inverness, IL, where he and Jerry had been founding members. But none of this prevented him from enjoying a Notre Dame football game.
In addition to Notre Dame football, nothing made Michael happier than spending time with family and friends. His children and grandchildren have fond memories of pre-dinner conversations while he manned the grill, dispensing wisdom over his favorite drink or glass of good wine.
Visitation will be on Thursday, December 2, 3:00 to 8:00 PM, at Smith-Corcoran Funeral Home, located at 185 E. Northwest Hwy in Palatine.
