Michael Mike Granaudo, Jr., 86, passed away peacefully at home on December 14, 2024 after a long battle with COPD, Asbestosis and most recently, Covid-19. His beloved wife Rose was by his side comforting him as he passed.
Born in Flumeri, Avellino, Italy, he was the son of the late Michele & Agnes (Melino) Granaudo. He was one of 7 children.
Mike arrived in this country in 1955 and worked for Archi Construction Co. He then worked for Paul J. Civetti, plowed snow for the city of Springfield, and was a foreman for Adams and Ruxton. In 1976, he purchased acreage in Southwick and built the road and houses for what became the pride of his construction career, Granaudo Estates.
Mike was a hardworking man who devoted his life to providing for his family and making a home for them. He was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather who loved being involved in their lives. He especially loved watching his grandchild Vin grow up. He was very proud to become a citizen of the United States on January 10, 1973. His passion was working on and running his construction equipment, tending to his fruit trees, grape vines & vegetable gardens, and caring for the grounds around his home. He also enjoyed the company of his neighbor Joe, other friends, his many German Shepherds & favorite cats (Fonzie & Munchie), and playing cards with his friend Steve.
Mike was predeceased by his siblings, Rocco & Felicia, nephew, Michele, and niece, Maria.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Rose (Giannini), children, Rose Yagielo & husband James, Michael Granaudo, and Maria Granaudo, grandchildren, Virginia Vin Gesty, and Cameron Sevigne & wife Kayla, siblings, Florinda Cosentini, Antonio Granaudo, Celeste Martel, Victor Granaudo & wife Barbara, along with many loving nieces & nephews.
Mikes wake will be Wednesday, December 18, from 2-4 p.m at Tazzini Funeral Home, 22 Locust Street in Springfield. His funeral will begin Thursday, 9 a.m. at the Funeral Home proceeding to Michaels 10 a.m. Liturgy of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Burial will follow at St. Michaels Cemetery.
