Michael Robert Green aka Uncle Bob left this world to be with his Heavenly Father Feb. 27, 2024.
Being born in 1923 he has seen many changes and amazing things in Norfolk. Bob remembers fishing boats in Ocean View people could rent for the day, hurricanes, before they had names, streetcars, and especially the "Ocean View Amusement Park" with its sometimes hazardous roller coaster, and of course the "The Great Depression." Which made him stock up and save all the time. A true "prepper" before we even knew what it meant.
In Bobs later years as he got older his exceptional neighbors chipped in and helped him around the house. Whatever he needed, they fed him, cleaned, and mowed the lawn. He was truly blessed and his neighbors were truly angels...
They threw a rousing Birthday party for his 100th last July. Everyone was there. Family, Veterans, Va. Pilot and the Mayor, Kenny Alexander.
Bob's wonderful landlord, of maybe 30 or so yrs., Mr. Craig, said he could live there until whenever Bob went home to be with God, which he did.
Bobs favorite, including Marilyn Monroe, and his good friend, Tina, who always made the best BBQ, was the nurse at his doctor's office. Her name is Lilly. "Lilly like a flower" she would always say. She was the best, and always put Bob first...Bob would tell the doctor and her, stick around for the second 100 yrs.
During his time in the Army during WWII in Italy, he would dig up land mines and disarm them by hand. So we all knew he was a hell-cat. His company in the Army was called the "Blue Devils".
A heartfelt thank you to all of Bob's neighbors and friends and the McDonalds family he would visit every morning, at the crack of dawn, with his buddy Eddie and an assortment of other gentlemanly and female patrons.
Most closely related to mourn Bobs passing are two nieces, Rebecca Parsons of Ga. and her husband Terry, and their two sons, Terry and Tim. Another niece, Debra Roper and her son Brian and his wife Kelly, and their two sons, Brian and Grant.
Everyone will miss Bob dearly, He was a gem. And a stinker at times.
Arrangements are private. Condolences to the family may be made at www.hollomon-brown.com
