Michael Joseph Hickey

Michael Joseph Hickey, a cherished son, brother, uncle and friend, passed away peacefully on December 29, 2025, in Carmel, NY, at the age of 64. Born on May 29, 1961, in the Bronx, NY, Michael was a man whose warmth and friendliness left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
Michael was the beloved son of Bridget (Cooke) Hickey and the late Michael A. Hickey. He grew up in a close-knit family and shared a special bond with his sister Deirdre and her husband, James, as well as his adored niece, Ciara. His family was the cornerstone of his life and he cherished every moment spent with them. Michael's love extended to his four-legged, feline buddy, Jack, who was a constant source of joy and companionship.
A proud graduate of Cardinal Hayes High School, Michael went on to become a skilled carpenter, dedicating many years of service to the United Brotherhood of Carpenter's Union 157 in New York City. His craftsmanship and dedication to his trade earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues and peers. Michael's work was not just a job; it was a testament to his strong work ethic and his commitment to excellence.
Outside of work, Michael was known for his passion for cars. A self-proclaimed "gearhead," he owned several cars throughout his life, but none compared to his street racing legal Camaro, which was his pride and joy. Michael's love for cars was more than a hobby; it was a way of life that brought him together with fellow enthusiasts and friends.
Michael's interests were diverse, but above all, he valued the time spent with his many friends. He was the kind of person who never met a stranger and his friendly demeanor made him a beloved figure in his community. His ability to connect with people from all walks of life was truly remarkable.
Michael Joseph Hickey will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him. His memory will continue to inspire those he left behind and his spirit will live on in the hearts of his family and friends. As we say goodbye to Michael, we celebrate a hard-won, life well lived, full of love, friendship and the simple joys that make life worth living.
Visitation will be held on Monday, January 5, 2026 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Cargain Funeral Homes, Inc., 418 Route 6 (GPS US-6), Mahopac, NY.
A Mass of Christian Burial to honor and celebrate Michael's life will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 6, 2026 at St. John the Evangelist Church, 225 East Lake Boulevard, Mahopac, NY.
Following the service, Michael Joseph Hickey will be escorted to his final resting place alongside his dear father, Michael A. Hickey, at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 10 Stevens Avenue, Hawthorne, NY.
