Michael Wayne Hilliard, 64, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 17, 2025, at his home. A memorial visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville, MO.

Born on June 14, 1961, in Lake Charles, Louisiana, to Henry and Shirley (Moon) Hilliard, Michael lived a life filled with love, laughter, and a deep appreciation for family and friends. Growing up in Lake Charles, Michael graduated from Lake Charles High School before embarking on a new adventure at the age of 20, relocating to Harrisonville, Missouri. For the next 30 years, he made Harrisonville his home, where he lovingly raised his children: Candace, Michael, Alicia, Ashley, and Jeremy. In 2006, he married Kathleen "Kathy" Weitl in Harrisonville, MO.
Michael devoted his professional life to working as a maintenance technician, dedicating 17 years to Stahl Specialty before continuing his journey at Oregon Tool, where he worked until a year ago. He took great pride in his work and was admired for his commitment and reliability. Known for his infectious smile and kind heart, Michael had a passion for fishing that began when he was just a toddler. He loved to explore the beauty of the country through travel and cherished every moment spent with his family and friends, always finding joy in their company.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Patricia Wozniak; and his brother, David Hilliard. He is survived by his wife, Kathy Hilliard; his children: Candace Hilliard, Michael (Terran) Hilliard, Alicia Hilliard, Ashley Hilliard, and Morgan (Paris) Hilliard; step-children: Rachel (David) Merdian and Christopher Connell; his grandchildren: Dylan Hilliard, Jude Gambril, and Masyn Hilliard; and many extended family and friends who will remember him for his warmth, wisdom, and unwavering support.
